Features of the Merry-Link RGB E27 Multi-Color LED lamp + 1pcs remote and comparison to 5W 16 Color RGB LED lamp.
Description of Merry-Link features:
The Smooth flow mode uses an up-the-rainbow down-the-rainbow pattern. The fastest speed takes a few seconds to complete the cycle, and the slowest takes about 90 seconds.
The Fade pattern changes the intensity for a single color from 0% to 100% and back to 0%. This is then repeated with a different color.
The Marquee Effect is amazing. In no time I had rainbow waves of color flowing around the room.
Warm White Light: Using the RGB level controls, I mixed a pleasant warm whit with +20 Red, +13 Green, +1 Blue. The beam has a red blush in the center as the Red, Green, and Blue elements do not line up exactly. My warm white mix is slightly over 50% power level, and should not shorten the life of the bulb.
Wall washing application: I have configured ten of these lamps to “paint” 36 feet of white wall any color of my choice. The room is lit with hooded CFL par 30 lamps. The hoods limit the amount of white light that illuminates the white wall. Ten RGB LED lamps are arranged in track fixtures on the ceiling along the white wall. The result is a brightly lit room “painted” in the color of my choice.
Side by side comparison of the Merry-Link 5W to the 16 Color 5W lamp.
The Merry-Link lamp is a generation more capable with the ability to mix custom colors, control fade speeds and set up marquee chasing lights. The Merry-Link appears slightly brighter in my non-scientific comparison. The remote controls are not interchangeable between the two lamps. The 16 Color lamp has “one-button mode switching” by flipping the power to the lamp on and off to change modes without the remote. I found this feature to be problematic because an inadvertent flip of the light switch would often result in flashing party lights when I wanted steady wall washing color. Neither lamp has a UL listing, or even a manufacturer name stamped on them, though they do have the European CE stamp. There is a 3W RGB LED, but it is two generations old, and does not merit comparison.
Conclusion: Useful RGB lighting has arrived with the Merry-Link RGB E27 Multi-Color LED lamp. These are no longer just a party light. They can serve both as a warm white light, and to wash a white wall the color of your choice. I also expect to see them used extensively in retail display applications.
