這幾年, LED條燈由於使用上相當簡單方便, 一般消費者都可以買回去DIY, 不管是櫥櫃, 層板, 牆角, 樓梯, 車子, 機車, 自行車....到處都看得到使用LED條燈來做為裝飾或是照明用, 然而, 畢竟一般消費者不是專業人士, LED條燈也是電子產品, 使用上若沒有注意到一些細節, 就容易造成不良或減短使用壽命, 以下是案例提供參考, [客戶端有RGB條燈以及控制器功能不正常的情況]
In recent years, a lots of consumers use of LED strip lights for decoration or lighting for cabinets, shelves, corner, stair, cars, motorcycle, bikes etc due to its convenience. However, not every consumer has the related electronic background and skills. LED strip lights are considered as electronic products. If s consumer does not consult a professional before any installation, serious consequences such as fire and death may arise from improper installation. Below is a real case from one of our clients.
1. 經檢查3個不正常RGB控制器都是B(藍光)迴路, 內部開關零件過電流損壞,
2. 檢查條燈焊接部位, 發現客戶並未用矽膠或熱熔膠密封防水處理,
部份焊點錫球太大, 部份有拉錫絲, 助焊劑錫球未刷乾淨
原因分析:
1. 由於客戶依其需求, 自行裁剪並焊接條燈, 其使用之錫條品質不良有殘留錫絲或錫渣, 同時焊接的錫點太大, 容易與相鄰的焊點回路接觸短路
2. 焊點附近錫油助焊劑都未刷洗, 由於助焊劑是強酸, 容易吸收空氣中水份受潮而水解, 進而與鄰近迴路產生漏電導通現像, 用電表量測導通, 會發現B與電源+12V(黑色線), 電表有顯示數字, 表示未完全絕緣, 因此可判斷是漏電造成控制器內B迴路開關零件過電流, 因而燒毀.
3. 經瞭解, 客戶表示是使用在戶外屋簷下, 淋不到雨, 因此未在焊接點上做防水密封處理, 焊接後也未做錫油助焊劑清潔動作, 因此研判清晨或晚上露水或空氣中濕氣高, 造成錫油助焊劑吸水受潮, 造成漏電導通短路情況, 進而燒壞控制器以及變壓器電源
預防矯正措失:
1. 要求客戶選用品質好一點的錫條, 由於RGB條燈4個焊點很靠近, 建議客戶焊接錫點不可太大. 避免造成短路
2. 助焊劑錫油務必刷洗乾淨, 避免吸水受潮漏電情況
3. 建議客戶焊接處最好使用矽膠或熱熔膠密封固定, 除了可以固定焊接的電子線不易拉扯斷開, 也可以達到防水及抗氧化的目的, 尤其使用在較潮濕地方, 裸露的錫點特別容易氧化長出錫鬚, 進而與鄰近焊點發生接觸短路情況.
4. 請客戶務必在條燈都接好後, 才能接電源送電, 否則在通電的時候, 控制器上R或G或B電子線接觸到+12V電子線, 就會發生短路燒毀控制器內部零件
補充說明:
1. 如果已使用一段時間(半年以上), 發現條燈不亮, 控制器或變壓器壞了 , 千萬記得--不要拿到新的控制器或變壓器就直接接上條燈使用, 可能會造成新的控制器或變壓器也燒掉!! 因為可能主要原因是條燈氧化損壞或漏電短路, 而造成控制器或變壓器滿載或過載過熱而損壞, 所以如果沒有先檢查排除不良的條燈,那就會接一個死一個.....再多的變壓器都不夠換....
2. 如果條燈長時間使用一年以上有造成不良情況的, 建議直接換新燈條, 畢竟條燈已經很便宜屬於消耗品, LED條燈的燈數太多, 相對的隨著時間越久產生不良的機率就大大增加, 一會兒這一段不亮, 一會兒那不亮, 如果浪費時間去維修, 以台灣的人工是划不來的,
3. 如何檢查條燈是否有不良? 首先目測檢查, 接線處或末端是否已有氧化生鏽變黑或長銅綠...等情形, 條燈表面覆膠是否破裂進水? 接著使用電表量測各導線之間是否有導通漏電現象, 如果有功率計(power meter)可以量測瓦數是否有超過正常值, 一般3顆小功率LED一組約0.18~0.24W, 據此推算總長的條燈, 正常總瓦數是多少, 再和功率計量得的數據做比較, 就可以知道條燈是否有漏電短路造成變壓器超載....
4. 要讓條燈及變壓器使用壽命能長一點, 通常建議, 所接的條燈長度總功率只佔所使用的變壓器總功率的 6~7成, 勉強到8成, 越接近變壓器的滿載輸出功率, 變壓器溫度越高, 內部零件壽命會越短......(而且是倍數變短!!)
5. 條燈裁剪越多段, 再串接或併接, 相對的, 人為焊接的疏失機會就越高, 漏電短路機會也越大...因此務必在各裁切口做好封膠固定線以及防水等措失, 施工完成後用電表及功率計量測, 確認在設計的範圍內, 另外採取電源分散原則, 避免一段條燈掛了, 整個全掛了.....

Analysis:
1. This client has cut the LED strip on his own to meet his needs. Yet, with the poor quality of solder balls, and tin slag cover up the welding pads. At the same time the big solder may cause short circuits with adjacent joints.
2. The fluxes around soldering pads are not clean up and they contain chlorides and strong acids absorbs moisture easily. It may cause short circuits and current leakage with adjacent circuits. From the display of an multimeter, we know there is no insulation between the “B” and the +12V(black wire), and it might cause the over current of the LED strip controller's B circuit

3. After had a talk with this client, We found out that he did not do all the above statements, the necessary protection, because this LED strip light is for out door beneath the eaves. Anyhow, we can tell the leakage causing the short circuit, and damaged the transformer and controller.

Prevent failure and Corrective Action:
1. Recommend clients to use a good quality soldering tin. Due to the solder pads of the RGB strip light are very close to each other, we suggest consumers don't use too much soldering tin to avoid causing a short circuit.
2. Be sure to scrub and clean up the flux from the soldering pads to avoiding water absorbs moisture that causes leakage.

3. Suggest clients to use silicon or hot melt stick to cover up the soldering joints to secure the wires connection, and for the purpose of waterproofing and anti-oxidation.
4. Please make sure the strip lights are well connected before power on. Otherwise the electronic parts will be burned and damaged of the controller by direct contact with the charged source.
Additional Tips:
1. If the LED strip lights has been used for more than 6 months and it is notworking properly (doesn't light up), or found out the controller or the transformer is damaged, DO NOT replace a new controller or transformer directly and connect with the strip lights. It will damage the new controller or transformer. It could be the leakage or short circuit of the strip causes the overload and overheat to burn and damage the controller or transformer. It's better to find out the bad strip lights first and replace a new one.
2. We recommended to replace a new strip lights if it has been used for more than a year and it's not working properly. It's not worthy to fix the strip lights for it is as a cheap consumables.
3. In order to make the life of strip lights and transformer longer, we recommend that the total wattage of the lighting load is used 70% of that of transformer. If lighting load of strip lights is close to the out put of the transformer, the life of this transformer will be very short due to the higher the temperature of full output power.
4. Strip lights that is connected in series or parallel with many pieces that is the higher chance to get leakage and short circuit due to the human error. Therefore, to make sure on each open section of the strip lights to seal and cover up the silicone as waterproof. Again, to make sure all the total wattage of the lighting is within the range of safety load.
